How to get out 12 V either 24 V power ESP32 and sensors and select DC-DC-converter?

To power the ESP32 from the higher DC voltage, you usually need a downstream converter and a suitable current reserve. Set and measure output voltage before connecting.

What to check out

  • Check the permitted insert input: 5 V or VIN connector is not the same as 3V3. Use the specific implementation instructions.
  • Select a converter with an appropriate input range, including a reserve for actual supply voltage and disturbances.
  • Evaluate the consumption of ESP32 and additions and try switching on Wi-Fi, record on SD and other tips.
  • Check voltage under load, heating and losses on the cable. Use the same USB and external source only if the panel allows.

A Practical Example

If you need 5 V from 24 V, select a buffer-converter whose input area is securely comprised of 24 V. Do not select Mini360 without checking the permitted voltage of the specific module; many versions are not suitable for 24 V.

Common error

MT3608 is usually an upward converter, so there is no replacement for a buck. The nominal maximum current of the module is not necessarily a continuous current in a closed housing.
