Refrigerator miscools: how do I check if the problem is NTC-sensor?

Miscooling shall not constitute failure of the NTC. The cause may also be cable, connector, fan, defrosting, neck sealing or other part of the device.

What to check out

  • Write down the refrigerator model, the symptoms and any error code. Find the service information for the exact sensor used.
  • Before access, disconnect the device from the power grid. Do not aim the mutiny on the power grid.
  • Measure the unset sensor at known and stable temperatures and compare the result with the corresponding service R/T-table.
  • Check the cable and the connector. If necessary, compare the measurement at the sensor with the measurement through its cable; interruption or poor contact may mimic the sensor failure.

A Practical Example

If the resistance in the slight movement of the cable jumps, the connection may be a problem. If stable, however, you still need a correct table to assess if it fits the temperature.

Common error

Do not heat the tip with an open flame or bypass protection. In case of electrical or cooling system interventions, diagnostics should be continued by a qualified repairer.
