Why does PETG do threads and scoops and how do I eliminate string?

The threads in PETG can cause moisture, temperature, retraction and travel movements. Kepke is also formed by material accumulated on the outside of the nozzle.

What to check out

  • Check the status of the filament and perform drying as instructed by the manufacturer if necessary.
  • Clean the outside of the nozzle according to the instructions of the plant and check that the material leaks at the nozzle coupling.
  • With a small test change one setting at a time: temperature within the permitted range, then retraction and travel.
  • If the material is too much everywhere, check also the flow, the diameter of the filament in the profile and the first layer.

A Practical Example

Print two small towers with many movements between them. Save the profile and mark the test to compare one change to the baseline.

Common error

Very long retraction is not a universal solution and can cause new problems. If the plastic leaks from the thread, first remove the incorrectly assembled willend.
